New Hale library is set to open in Spring 2023

Hale’s new state-of-the-art library and community centre is set to open its doors to library users in the Spring of 2023 and has building works near completion.

Construction work on the new library and community centre has progressed apace during 2022 which means the library and community centre will soon be open for local residents, businesses and the public.  It is anticipated that the library will open first, followed swiftly by the new community facilities.

In addition, work on the new residential homes and retail outlet on the former library site on Leigh Road site is now also almost complete.  These new homes and the retail unit have been designed specifically to complement the surrounding streets and have been constructed at the same time as the new library and community centre building.

The library will be located on the first floor of the new building on the pavilion site and the ground floor will provide accommodation for Hale Bowling Club, along with community facilities including new public toilets and a café.   The new library will be just under 3,000 sq ft in size and will have all the facilities of a modern library, books, computers, Wi-Fi activities and events and staff on hand to help.

Grahame Elliott, Chair of Hale Community Trust, said: “It has been fantastic to see this stunning new building emerge from the former Pavilion site.  I am sure that 2023 will see the new Library and Community Centre becoming a focal point for residents and businesses in Hale.

“Hale Community Trust has worked tirelessly over a number of years to ensure a library service is retained for Hale while at the same time creating a community facility that will be open to people of all ages.  It has been a great example of partnership working.

It is anticipated that the temporary library currently located in the former RBS building will close and reopen in the new building by the end of March 2023.
