Work starts on new Hale Library and Community Centre

Building work has now started on the new Hale Library and Community Centre following the signing of legal agreements between Hale Community Trust, Trafford Council and the developers Westshield Ltd on December 13 2021.

The start of works marks the culmination of more than 6 years of negotiations by Hale Community Trust with Trafford Borough Council to ensure a library service is retained in Hale and a new community hub is created for local residents and businesses.

While building work takes place, Hale Library will temporarily move into the former RBS Building on the corner of Ashley Road and Victoria Road in Hale. It is anticipated that the temporary library is due to open mid January 2022. This will allow for the construction of the new library and community centre on the Hale Bowling Green Pavilion site and the former Library on Leigh Road to create new homes and a retail outlet to be carried out simultaneously.

It is anticipated that all the building work, including the new homes and commercial property on Leigh Road, will take approximately 15 months to complete with a view to the new library and community facilities being open to the public by Spring 2023.

Hale Community Trust has been a key driving force behind these proposals for a number of years and we are delighted that the proposals have finally been given the go ahead. We believe the new library and community centre will contribute significantly to Hale’s economic growth while enhancing local community services which will include new community event spaces and improved facilities for bowling club members, residents and community groups.
